Mumbai, June 30: Heavy rains wrought havoc in Mumbai turning the megapolis into a watersheet, and disrupting normal life in several parts of Maharahstra, besides claiming ten lives across the State.

The ten deaths have been reported from different parts of Maharahstra. Two died of electrocution in Nagaon village of Vasai taluka near Thane, three each died in Ratnagiri and Raigad districts in Konkan region while two women were killed in Mahad district.

Life was thrown out of gear in Mumbai as both road and rail traffic was disrupted due to water logging on tracks on all the three routes -- Central, Harbour and Western lines and flooding of low-lying areas across the city.

The Central line services between CST-Thane and CST-Vashi on the Harbour line were completely stopped due to water logging at Masjid Bunder, Byculla, Parel, Sion, Kurla and Ghatkopar on the Central line and at Wadala on the Harbour line. Western Railway trains were running late by over 30 to 35 minutes. Several long distance trains' arrival and departure to and fro Mumbai had to be cancelled and rescheduled due to flooding of tracks here.

Poor visibility due to inclement weather forced cancellation and delayed operations of several national and international flights to and fro Mumbai.

National domestic carrier Indian, today cancelled three flights from Mumbai even as all flights operating from Chhatrapati Shivaji Domestic terminal were delay by over one hour.

Only about 10 to 12 per cent buses and private vechicles were plying on the roads here. The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Undertaking buses were also affected due to the incessant rains.
