Itanagar, June 30 (UNI) The Defence Ministry has given a green signal to the proposed Greenfield Airport at Karsingsa, about 25 km from here.

The Union Ministry and the state government had reached an agreement on condition among others that prior to the commencement of the operation of civil flight, representatives of Indian Air Force (IAF) would be involved in establishing airspace coordination procedures, sources added today.

Earlier, the defence ministry had raised strong objection to the proposal for construction of the airport at Karsingsa on grounds that civil flights from the airport would encroach upon the flight path of fighter planes as the area was being used as ground firing range by the IAF.

The state government was also required to obtain no objection certificates from other organisations concerned with the airport, sources added.

Union Home Minister Shivraj V Patil laid the foundation stone of Greenfield airport in February last.
