New Delhi, June 29 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today asked the NDMC, CPWD and the Delhi Jal Board to work in tandem to ensure equitable distribution of drinking water in the NDMC area.
A high-level meeting, chaired by the Chief Minister, to review water and electricity supply position in the NDMC area, including the Gole Market Assembly Segment, decided on several measures to imrpove water supply in the area concerned.
The measures include construction of more underground reservoirs, preparing an action plan to replace the age-old water pipelines which were laid when the entire area used to have single-storeyed quarters and replacement of damaged pipelines on a priority basis.
The storage level of Talkatora Water Tank would be raised to maintain appropriate level of water supply in the area to provide relief to the residents who have been making complaints about shortage of drinking water.
As far as electricity supply is concerned, it was reported that load consumption would go up by five times in 6724 flats in the Gole Market area.
It is expected to reach 22 MW as every flat would be requiring load of 3 KW as against 0.6 KW presently. It was decided to upgrade the entire system by 2008. It was also reported that disruption in electric supply have been happening during the evening in residential areasand during day in commercial areas. Certain transformers are about 40 years old, which require proper maintenance.
Ms Dikshit stressed the need of proper coordination between the NDMC and CPWD in providing uninterrupted power supply in the area.
The CPWD is undertaking rewiring of electricity in government flats.
However, the pace of work is slow due to paucity of funds.
The Chief Minister would take up this matter with appropriate authority so that adequate funds are allocated to complete the entire work within two years against five years as planned by the CPWD.
It was also decided to give a more attractive and aesthetic exterior look to government quarters in the NDMC area, including the Gole Market Assembly Segment. This would be completed before commencement of the Commonwealth Games.
Among others who attended the meeting were Chairperson NDMC, CEO, DJB and senior officers of CPWD.
