Monsoon continues to be weak over Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 29 (UNI) The South West Monsoon continued to remain weak for the fourth day over Kerala, with more people leaving the relief camps for their homes as the sea became calm and water started receding from the low lying areas.

However, it was estimated that about 6,500 people were still in the relief camps.

With the monsoon remaining weak, there were very few reports of property and agriculture loss. However, the property loss till yesterday was estimated at Rs 129.40 crore and the agriculture loss stood at Rs 395.09 crore.

Meanwhile the Local Met office said isolated heavy rain fall was likely to lash the state in the next 48 hours and also warned of the strong onshore winds from the Westerly direction, with speed reaching 45 to 55 Kmph along Kerala coast and Lakshwadeep.

It said the highest rainfall of 100 mm was received at Nilambur followed by Peerumedu with 30 mm.

While Chittur got 40 mm and Amabalavayal 30 mm of rainfall respectively, the Met office said.
