Mahila Congress slams BJP for levelling allegations against Patil

Jaipur, June 29 (UNI) Mahila Congress today condemned the BJP and its allies for spearheading a campaign of ''baseless'' personal allegations against UPA-Left combine's Presidential nominee Pratibha Patil and decided to take out processions in districts to counter the campaign and tell the people the truth about ''prospective first woman president of the country''.

Talking to reporters here, organisation president Rita Bahuguna Joshi said the campaign being launched by the BJP against Ms Patil had been evoking a sharp reaction among women folks in the country and a number of delegations from different woman groups were visiting the party headquarters in New Delhi for conveying their feelings over Ms Patil's candidature.

She said these delegations were all praise for UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi for fielding a woman for the highest constitutional post of the country and were expressing their anguish over the BJP's ''baseless'' campaign against the former Rajasthan Governor.

Ms Bahuguna said Mahila Congress had also decided to organise processions at district level in favour of Ms Patil to convey facts to the people about her 50-year-long flawless public life.

She said the outcome of the July 19 presidential election was a foregone conclusion as Ms Patil was heading to become the first woman president of the country.

''There is no doubt, no uncertainty about her win,'' Ms Bahuguna said.

Ms Bahuguna was in town to participate in the meeting of the state office-bearers and district president of Rajasthan Pradesh Mahila Congress.

The meeting also adopted a resolution to praise Ms Gandhi to field a woman candidate in the presidential election and condemn BJP for launching a ''malicious campaign'' against Ms Patil.

The Mahila Congress state unit has also decided to launch massive campaign against ''anti-people and anti-women'' policies of the Vasundhara Raje Government in Rajasthan, Ms Bahuguna said.
