HC calls for medical bill reimbursement files of 4 MLAs

Mumbai, June 28 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today directed the Maharashtra government to produce in court files pertaining to reimbursement made to four MLAs, including former minister Dr N P Hirani and Padmasinh Patil, towards medical treatment of their relatives.

Acting on a public interest litigation filed by Janhit Manch, a division bench of Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar and S C Dharmadhikari pointed out the names of four MLAs from a list submitted by the petitioner and asked Advocate General Ravi Kadam to produce files with respect to payments made to them.

The court also asked the petitioner to put forth any averments regarding payments based on bogus bills made to specific members of Lagislative Assembly or Council.

The petitioner, in his application, has alleged that the four MLAs had taken undue advantage of the scheme that provides unlimited reimbursement towards medical bills to standing or former MLAs or their close relatives.

The petition further alleged that huge payments were made without details of relatives, types of ailments and whether the relative is dependant on the member or not.

The petition will come up for further hearing next week.
