CM admits to nexus with insurgents for maintaining peace in region

Aizawl, Jun 29 (UNI) Admitting his links with the insurgents Chief Minister Zoramthanga clarified that his association with the insurgents was for ensuring peace in the state and other NE regions.

''The central government officials have forced me to make peace with the insurgents in the NE states since I had been a leader of insurgents for more than 20 years. The central officials have put their faith in me simply because I have led my people to peace with the central government without holding any grudge,'' Mr Zoramthanga said, while addressing his partymen. ''For all these reasons, I had to have nexus with insurgents and because of my work, the NSCM(IM) and other insurgents are currently holding talks for peace. I want to assure you that I never formed an alliance that can terrorise the people of Mizoram,''he added.

Responding to the opposition's demands for President's Rule in the state, the Chief Minister said the opposition party's demand was in total disregard of the state being the most peaceful state in the northeast, and that if the President's rule was to be implemented,the other north east states should first be put under the President's Rule.

''To lose faith in the MLAs elected by the people and to have more faith in a state run by a non-Mizo shows the opposition party's disrespect to the people,'' he said.
