UP merges King George's Dental University with CSMMU
Lucknow, June 28 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh assembly today passed three bills, including the merging of King George's Dental University(KGDU) with Chatrapati Sahuji Maharaj Medical University (CSMMU), and increasing the number of members in State Minority Commission.
KGDU would now become a seperate wing in CSMMU. The bill repealing the act to set up the dental university had also been approved.
Similarly, the term of Minority Commission was decreased from three to one year, with the number of members being increased from six to 17 and adding two vice-chairpersons.
Another bill approved the appointment of three new vice-chairpersons in Jal Nigam.
The opposition members opposed the three bills saying that they were tabled in a hurry and it was an act of political vendetta.
However, State Parliamentary Affairs minister Lalji Verma said KGDU was set up only to benefit an individual and the decision to merge the dental university was taken on the demand of the faulty members of the university.
On other two bills, Mr Verma said it has been amended to make Minority Commission and Jal Nigam more efficient.
Earlier, a piquant situation arose in the UP Legislative Assembly when opposition members protested tabling of a bill in the house without sufficient notice.
The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the house had earlier today decided to table three of the 17 bills tabled yesterday Terming the move as undemocratic, Opposition said sufficient notice should have been given before tabling the bills.
Mr Verma said Opposition was unnecessarily making an issue out of a routine affair. ''During the previous regime, bills were passed on the same day of introduction'', he commented.
