UP govt to start process of privatisation of 21 sugar mills

Lucknow, June 28 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government has decided to start afresh privatisation of 21 sick sugar mills of the federation.

The Decision to this was taken in the state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mayawati here today.

In the Assembly also, state sugarcane development minister Nasiumuddin Siddique had announced that the government was going to start the process for privatisation of the sick sugar mills of the federation.

Earlier the Mualaym Singh Yadav government had also started the process for privatisation of these 21 sugar mills in 2003, but due to strong protest by the employees and a stay by the Allahabad High Court, the Samajwadi Party government had to shed the proposal.

In another decision, the government also gave its nod to stand gurantee for Rs 200 crore loan to be taken from the banks to pay back their dues to the sugarcane farmers.

The state government has also extended the facility of non-packed edible oil in the state for three months from July.
