Salaries of Prez, VP, Govs to be revised: Cabinet
New Delhi, June 28: The Cabinet today agreed in principle to raise the pay scales of the President, the Vice President, Governors and Lieutenant Governors and a decision would be taken before the monsoon session of Parliament.
Talking to reporters after the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said the issue would be taken up again after the proposed meeting of Governors.
Under the salary revision proposal, the emoluments of the President and the Vice President are to be doubled from Rs 50,000 to Rs one lakh and from Rs 40,000 to Rs 85,000 respectively.
The salary of Governors would go up from Rs 36,000 to Rs 75,000.
According to Rashtrapati Bhavan sources, there is no proposal to convene a conference of Governors during the tenure of President A P J Abdul Kalam which ends on July 24.
The monsoon session of Parliament normally begins sometime between July 20 and 25, but there are indications of a slight delay this year to enable Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who will visit India towards the end of August, to address a joint session of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had addressed the Japanese Parliament, Diet, when he visited Tokyo in December last year.
