'Run on Energy Conservation' organised by Delhi Transco

New Delhi, June 28 (UNI) To promote energy conservation measures and use of energy efficient appliances, a 'Run on Energy Conservation' was today organised by the Delhi Transco Limited and the Indraprastha Gas company on the occasion of their foundation day.

The run was flagged off at Yamuna Velodrome by Principal Secretary (Power), Delhi Government, Rakesh Mehta.

Employees of all the five power companies i.e. DTL, IPGCL, BSES Yamuna Power Ltd, BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd, NDPL--and their family members participated in the run, which passed through IG Stadium, Delhi Secretariat and finished back at Yamuna Velodrome. The objective of the run was to associate people with the campaign on Energy Conservation, which is the need of the hour.

Delhi does not have its own resources to generate power and has to depend on other states to meet its demand. In this scenario, judicious use of power is necessary.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Mehta said by following energy conservation measures and with the use of energy efficient appliances, 500 MW power can be saved, which means installation of one power plant can be savd in the future.

''The rates of coal and gas have increased , which has resulted in 70-75 per cent increase in generation cost of electricity. As the generation cost can not be reduced people can reduce their electricity bills by following simple energy saving tips and with the use of energy efficient appliances, which are available in the market at nominal cost.

The Delhi Governemnt has also introduced schemes for low-cost energy efficient appliances,''Mr Mehta said.
