PM calls for new global rules for peaceful rise of Asia

New Delhi, June 28 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has called on new global institutions and new global 'rules of the game' that can facilitate the peaceful rise of new nations in Asia.

Releasing a book, 'The New Asian Power Dynamic' at his residence last evening, he said it also meant that existing global institutions and frameworks of cooperation must evolve and change to accommodate this new reality.

''This is as true for the reform and revitalisation of the United Nations and the restructuring of the UN Security Council, as it is true for the management of multilateral trading system, or for the protection of global environment or for the security of world energy supplies,'' Dr Singh said.

New pathways of cooperation were also needed to deal with the scourge of international terrorism, he said.

Talking about the rise of Asia in the new world order, the Prime Minister said growing engagement with Asia required to be based on a better appreciation of Asia's rapidly changed economic, political, social and strategic dynamics.
