Madanpura scheme of Mumbai Police to be extended to state
Mumbai, June 28 (UNI) The Maharashtra government today informed the Bombay High Court that the measures undertaken by the police in Madanpura locality of the city, where two muslim girls and their family were allegedly harassed for persuing college education, will shortly be extended throughout the state.
Chief Public Prosecutor Satish Borulkar informed a Division bench comprising Justice Ranjana Desai and Justice D B Bhosale, measures undertaken in Madanpura locality by Nagpada police to prevent incidences of harassment witnessed by two sisters Smeena and Zarina Shaikh for persuing college education, will be extended throughout the state.
A copy of the affidavit by the Senior Police Inspector of Nagpada Police station Abdulsamad Pathan will be forwarded to all the police stations in the state through Director Generals office, Advocate Borulkar added.
The measures include vigilance through plainclothes policemen in the sensitive areas, helpline through one of the telephone numbers of concerned police station, regular Mohalla Committee meetings at police station levels and counselling, if necessary.
Stating that the problem faced by Smeena and Zarina has a social angle, police initiated these measures in Nagpada police station area and accordingly a Mohalla Committee meeting was held on Saturday in Madanpura in presence of concerned DCP.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against Mohammad Ali Nissar Ahmed Ansari, who has been charged with assaulting family members of Sameena and Zarina, for preventing them from persuing college education.
