Lakhs of Indians, Pakistanis participate in Chamliyal mela

Zero Line on Indo-Pak Border, June 28 (UNI) With a hope of complete peace, lakhs of people from either sides of Indo-Pak border today participated in the annual fair at the 'dargah' of Hindu deity Baba Chambliyal near International Border (IB) in the Ramgarh sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

A three-day annual fair on the fourth Thursday of June celebrated by lakhs of people from different religious backgrounds on either sides of the international border it brings out a common desire for peace.

More than one lakh people on other side of the border were waiting for holy 'Sharbat' (water) and 'Shakkar' (soil) from the dargah of famous saint Dalip Singh Manhas, commonly known as Baba Chamliyal, Sialkote Sector Commander of Pakistan Rangers Lt Col Mehmood said.

''We want peace should continue,'' the Pakistani officer told media persons before the flag meeting on this ''no man's land''.

About the on going peace initiatives being taken by both the regimes in India and Pakistan, the Ranger said it was coming out with healthy results. ''It was because of the on going peace process that we are here today,'' Lt Col Mehmood said.

There was a lot of enthusiasm among the people on both sides, who were looking across the border fence but not allowed to reach "no man's land" where the officers of the Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistani Rangers exchanged gifts.

The Sector Commander of Pak Rangers handed over the ''Chadar'' to the BSF DIG G S Virk, for offering at the ''dargah'' while they were given two trolleys full of ''Shakkar'' and two tanks of ''Sharbat'' from the Indian side.
