Srinagar, June 28 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation today registered a case against a former Chief Engineer for having acquired property, disproportionate to his known sources of income, by misusing official position and indulging in corrupt practices.
A vigilance spokesman said the search of the residential houses of former Irrigation and Flood Control Department Chief Engineer Ghulam Hassan Shah at posh Kursoo Raj Bagh revealed immovable and movable property worth about Rs 4 crore.
The Vigilance Organisation launched investigations following information that Shah had acquired disproportionate assets by indulging in corrupt practices during his service tenure.
During the investigations, it was found that Shah had acquired movable and immovable assets in the shape of a huge house at Kursoo Raj Bagh near Springfield School worth Rs 80 lakh.
He had recently constructed another huge palatial house on about two kanals of land adjacent to his old house worth about Rs 2 crore.
It was also found that the accused had acquired landed property at different locations in and around the city, he added.
The spokesman said he owned two cars, had deposits in various banks and also possessed huge jewellery.
He said the accused had paid lakhs of rupees as capitation fees (donation) to various private professional colleges for educating his three children outside the state.
The searches also revealed that the accused and his family members were having 25 bank accounts, the spokesman added.
He said the investigations further revealed that the only known and visible source of income of Shah was his salary and he comes from a rural background of Kulgam district.
The assets acquired by Shah were disproportionate to his known sources of income which constituted offences punishable under the Prevention of the Corruption Act, 2006.
A case has been registered against him, the spokesman added.
