Higher education policy need of the hour: VC
Mysore, June 28: Newly appointed Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) Vice Chancellor B A Vivek Rai today suggested the government to implement a clear cut policy on higher education, particularly for distance education.
Talking to newspersons here, after assuming the charge of VC, he said this should be an agenda for the coming Inter University Board Meeting.
The KSOU has a great reputation in the country, he said, adding that higher education policy was necessary to avoid similar courses being offered by other universities which have been losing identity.
He said he would prepare an action plan to start more courses, relevant to the present situation to make the university compete in this era of information technology.
The process of new appointments would begin in August and is expected to complete in October this year, he said and added that 4,000 applications had been so far received for 192 vacancies in the university.
The appointments would be made as per the university guidlines, which would also apply to the temporary employees, he added.
The 228-odd temporary employees are on a strike for more than 18 months, demanding regularisation of service. The issue was temporarily settled, following the intervention and instruction from Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy to take back the employees.
University registrar N R Sundar handed over the charge to the new Vice Chancellor.
