Criminal arrested on charges of raping mentally retarded girl

Mumbai, Jun 28 (UNI) A notorious criminal was arrested today on charges of raping an 18-year-old mentally retarded girl at Bhagat Singh Nagar at Goregaon in the western suburbs here.

As the victim was alone at home, the accused Anil Vithal Kolekar took advantage of it and allegedly raped her yesterday. When the victim's brother came to her rescue, Kolekar assaulted him.

Women of the locality said they were unsafe in the area because nobody dared to oppose the criminal activities of the accused Kolekar.

Some people saw Kolekar entering the victim's house when she was alone. But, nobody dared to restrict him from entering.

The victim has been admitted to Nagpada police hospital, sources said.

More than ten cases, including attempt to murder and rape, have been registered against Kolekar with Goregaon police station.

Police has registered a case of rape and assault against Kolekar.
