Abdul Karim Telgi sentenced to 13 years RI
Pune, June 28: Prime accused in the multi-crore fake stamp paper case Abdul Karim Telgi was today sentenced to 13 years' rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 50 crore by the MCOCA Court.
Delivering the quantum of sentences in the case, Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) Court Special Judge Chitra Bedi said Telgi would have to serve another three years RI in case he failed to pay the fine.
Judge Bhedi also ordered confiscation of Telgi's entire property. Before delivering the order, the Judge observed that Telgi deserved a much bigger sentence but considering his health and personal circumstances, she was diluting the order to the minimum as was permissible without any flaw in law. Telgi has been charged under various sections of the IPC and MCOCA Act prominently among them 120 (b) conspiracy, 312, 255, 256, 257, 260, 258, 289, 403, 420, 467 and 468 and more where punishment ranging from one to 10 years and fine of Rs one lakh to Rs 50 crore and an additional prison term, in case of default.
Public Prosecutor demanded that as per the provision of law, all properties of Telgi should be attached and moved an application to this effect.
Meanwhile, all the 43 accused in the inter-state multi-crore fake stamp paper scam were awarded a minimum sentence of 5 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5 lakh and an additional term of six months in case of default.
