Quantum of punishment in Bhagalpur riot case deferred till July 7

Bhagalpur, June 27 (UNI) The much-awaited pronouncement on quantum of punishment to the convicts in the infamous Logai massacre engineered during Bhagalpur riot eighteen years ago, was today deferred till July 7.

Special public prosecutor Qamrul Rahman here said the Additional District and Sessions judge Shambhunath Mishra deferred his pronouncement as one of the convicts was not present in the court, as required under the provision of the law.

Earlier, the court held all the 14 accused guilty in the case and fixed July 7 for pronouncing the quantum of punishment to them.

About 116 people were massacred at Logai village, notoriously known as Bhagalpur riot of 1989.
