New Delhi, June 27 (UNI) IBM Global Services continued to top the domestic IT services market in the country, according to the latest report by IDC.

The company posted a 9.7 per cent revenue share for the year 2006 (January-December 2006). This leadership position in the domestic IT services space was augmented by higher than industry average revenue growth in outsourcing engagements, the report said.

''Increased market share and significant wins, which have attributed to a consistent leadership ranking, are not a matter of chance. Pioneering initiatives and commitment to help clients transform and innovate, have helped us provide what they seek the most,'' said Mr Nipun Mehrotra, Director Global Technology Services, IBM India.

Global Technology Services works closely with over 400 organisations in India, spanning across varied industries, providing them a diverse spectrum of IT services.

IBM India recently announced significant deals with major businesses in the country including one with Idea Cellular -- a 10-year business transformation pact to integrate, innovate and transform Idea's business processes and IT infrastructure; DLF, a leading real estate developer -- to transform and manage its IT infrastructure; Financial Information Network and Operations (FINO), an ICICI Bank promoted technology services provider -- for the first of its kind Micro Finance project in the country; Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) a 5-year services agreement to modernise CBDT's IT infrastructure and Delhi International Airport -- to modernise key business processes to meet burgeoning air traffic in India.

The Indian markets have been witnessing an increasing number of organisations outsourcing their non-core functions to improve competitiveness in the market.

IBM has been effectively leveraging its global know-how across different sectors, combined with innovative technologies to boost its customer's business efficiency and performance.

IBM Global Services India also continues to target the growing SMB market with niche packaged services.

''We see enormous potential in the Small and Medium Business (SMB) market. While controlling costs is still a priority for SMBs, they have also begun to realise the opportunities provided by IT. This is where our domain expertise coupled with technology prowess and track record will make a difference,'' Mr Nipun said.

The company has in fact expanded its reach to several towns in India such as Kochi, Coimbatore, Lucknow, Jaipur, Nagpur and Nashik. Plans are afoot to extend the company's services to more Tier I and Tier II towns.

''The total size of the domestic IT services market was 3.7 billion dollars in 2006, and was primarily driven by IT consolidation, big ticket implementation in the enterprise space and greater investments by SMBs,'' said Mrydul Vats, Asst Manager -- Software and Services Research, IDC India.
