Haryana levies tax on hotel luxuries, banquet halls
Chandigarh, June 27 (UNI) The Haryana government today decided to levy tax on luxuries provided in hotels and banquet halls in the state so as to mobilise additional resources.
A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of the state cabinet presided over by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda here today.
The tax will be levied with effect from August 1 and it would be imposed on hotels at the rate of 10 per cent on tariff notified at Rs 2000 per day and above.
Similarly, tax on banquet halls and marriage palaces will be imposed at the rate of 10 per cent on tariff of Rs 20,000 per day and above.
The hotel may allow use of health club, swimming pool and conference hall to non resident, such luxuries shall be taxable if they are provided in a hotel where lodging charges are more than Rs 2000 or more per room per day.
Luxury tax on hotels is being levied in the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnatka, Kerala, Rajasthan, Delhi, UP, Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.
