Govt decides to conduct socio-economic survey of BCs

Thiruvananthapuram, June 27 (UNI) Kerala Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Welfare Minister A K Balan today informed the Assembly that the government had decided to conduct a socio-economic survey to update the list of Backward Classes (BCs) in the state.

Replying to questions by K V Abdul Khader and others, he said the State Planning and Economic Affairs Department had been etrusted with the task of conducting the survey.

Mr Balan said no time-frame had been fixed to complete the survey, which was last conducted in November 2002.

The survey was ordered on the basis of Backward Classes Commission Act, which stipulates updating of the Backward Classes' list every ten years, he added.
