Chennai, Jun 27 (UNI) The South Russian Union for foreign students in Russia, (SRUFSR) today warned students aspiring to study medicine in Russia to be wary of bogus agents who come forward to arrange for medical studies there.

Secretary of SRUFSR, Dr K M E Raja told newsmen here that the agents collect huge sums from gullible students and take them to Russia, but leave them in the lurch there in the streets without making any arrangements.

This has been putting the students to untold sufferings, due to various problems, including language, he said.

Dr Raja, who is also a director of City based ZIMA Medical Science and Educational Trust, and Director for English Sector Rostov State Medical University, advised the students to remit their fees directly to the University where they are to study, instead of engaging a middleman like an agent.

He alleged that the agents instead of collecting only the annual fee of Rs 1 lakh from the students, used to collct Rs 2 to 3 lakhs.

He pointed out that he was in Russia for the last 11 years, working as a Doctor there. If Indian students can approach him, he would guide them, he added.

Dr Raja said SRUFSR and ZIMA Trust were established only to help students from India, who wanted to study medicine in Russia. They will not only help the aspiring students from India but also guide them till the students complete their studies there, he added.

To a question, he said about 2500 Indian students, including 250 to 300 from Tamil Nadu are studying medicine in Russia.
