2 SRPF men killed in van-truck collision near Chandrapur

Nagpur, Jun 27 (UNI) Two policemen attached to the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) were killed and nine others injured, one of them seriously, when their van hit a stationary truck in Chandrapur district in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.

According to police, Police Inspector (PI) Vithal Shravan Dhole (54) and Head Constable Vikas Bhaurao Shirke (43) died on the spot when their van hit a truck parked on the road yesterday.

Constable Sharad Manekar (43), who was seriously injured in the mishap, was initially admitted to hospital in Chandrapur and was today shifted to Nagpur for treatment, the police said. The other eight injured are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Warora, police said.

The men, from SRPF Group IX, were returning to their headquarters in Amravati after a three-month deployment in the anti-naxalite operation in Gadchiroli district, the police added.
