World Hindi Conference to be held in New York from July 13-15

New Delhi, June 26 (UNI) The 8th World Hindi Conference will be held from July 13-15 in New York.

A meeting of the Steering Committee of the 8th World Hindi Conference was held here today under the chairmanship of Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma.

The Minister informed the Committee about the preparations made so far for the conference. The inaugural session would be held at the UN on July 13, the foreign office said.

There would be nine thematic sessions at the conference, with the first session on "Hindi at the United Nations". Scholars from India and abroad, including non-Hindi speaking regions, would be presenting papers on different subjects including Hindi and IT, role of Bollywood in promotion of Hindi, Hindi writing abroad, teaching of Hindi in India and abroad and Devanagari Script.

Documentary films on Hindi short stories, tele-serials, Bollywood and Hindi and classics on different subjects would be made available to delegates.

There was a strong recommendation from the members of the Steering Committee for getting Hindi recognized as one of the official languages of the United Nations.
