WB, Sikkim signs MoU for proposed 120MW hydel-plant on Rammam river

Kolkata, Jun 26 (UNI) The West Bengal government today signed a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) with its Sikkim counterpart for the proposed 120 MW hydel power plant on Rammam river near Bengal-Sikkim border, with an investment of Rs 650 crore.

Speaking to mediapersons, State Power Minister Mrinal Banerjee said the hydel power plant would be constructed by NTPC Hydro Limited and commissioned in 2011-12.

''This hydel project would be solely funded by National Thermal Power Company(NTPC) and the power will be shared by NTPC, Bengal government and Sikkim government,'' Mr Banerjee said.

Sikkim Power Secretary D D Pradhan and State Power Secretary Sunil Mitra signed the MoU on behalf of the respective state governments.

Out of the total 120 MW, Sikkim would get 12 per cent, which is around 14 MW, NTPC 15 per cent (around 16 MW) and the rest 90 MW would be purchased by West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company.
