Six Indian IT cos figure in Business Week rankings

New Delhi, June 26 (UNI) Infosys Technologies, Wipro, Satyam, Bharti Airtel, Tata Consultancy Services, and HCL Technologies have ranked among the leading global IT companies in the prestigious Business Week 'Top IT Companies'.

The country's top IT comapnies share space with global giants like Microsoft, AT&T, Nokia, Google, Amazon, IBM, Oracle, Siemens and Acer.

Airtel was on the top of the list for Indian companies ranked at 14, Tata Consultancy Services at 23, Infosys Technologies at 30, Wipro at 49, Satyam at 73 and HCL Technologies at 76.

Dell, SAP, and Motorola failed to make the cut due to weakness in their business, the report said adding that Dell ranked 15 last year, while SAP was at 39 and Motorola was 11 on the list.

Accroding to the methodology used, companies whose stock price has dropped more than 75 per cent, sales shrank, or where other developments raised questions about future performance were eliminated from contention.

The ratings also dropped some telecom companies whose monopoly or near-monopoly power in their countries gives them an unfair advantage over competitors.

The remaining group of companies was ranked on four criterion such as return on equity, shareholder return and revenue growth (which were given equal weight) and total revenues (which was weighted).

Companies were rewarded in the rankings for getting into new businesses or reinventing existing businesses or markets.
