Punjab to have cancer speciality hospitals
Chandigarh, June 26 (UNI) The Punjab government plans to build two cancer speciality hospitals in the cancer prone belts of Bathinda and Hoshiarpur districts, Health and Family Welfare Minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla told the state Vidhan Sabha here today.
Replying to a querry by Kanwarjit Singh Brar (Cong) during Question Hour, Ms Chawla told the House that the government also planned to build a state level super speciality hospital. The funds for these three hosptals would be channelised through the National Rural Health programme, she added.
Regarding spread of cancer in Muktsar district due to contamination of drinking water supplied from the Sirhind canal, she said that pesticides and eating habits were the main causes of cancer in the region.
