Punjab govt approaches railways for reconstruction of bridge

Chandigarh, June 26 (UNI) The Punjab government has approached the Railway Ministry for reconstruction of the 100 year old Railway Over Bridge (ROB) at Ferozepur.

Replying to a call attention motion moved in the Vidhan Sabha here today jointly by Surjit Kumar Jayani (BJP) and Sohan Singh Thandal (SAD), PWD Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa said that the ROB needed to be reconstructed. The detailed engineering design for this project was prepared by RITES Ltd, a government of India undertaking. This design proposed raising the height of the ROB from five metres to 6.525 metres as required by the Railways, so as to allow for electrification of the track, he told the House.

Mr Dhindsa said that the state government was pursuing this case with the Railways for approval of engineering design and for executing the portion of the project to be built by the Railways.

The government has asked the Railway Ministry to include it in its annual action plan.

The state government hopes to take up execution of this project during the current financial year, he told the House.
