Normalcy returns to Karntaka districts after monsoon fury
Bangalore, Jun 26 (UNI) Normal life returned in Dakshina Kannada and northern districts of Bijapur, Gulbarga, Bagalkot and Belgaum after the monsoon fury that claimed at least 43 lives during the last four days.
The water levels in majority of rivers, which threatened to cross the danger marks, had receded and the flood waters which undated the low lying areas had drained out.
According to Udupi district officials, two houses had collapsed while 33 houses were partially damaged during the last 24 hours. The surging flood waters also damaged the cultivation in the district.
A report from Mysore said despite inflow into reservoirs in the Cauvery basin has come down, the levels had increased following continued rains in the catchment areas.
The level in the Krishnarajasagar Reservoir (KRS) near here had gone up by four feet to 84 feet since yesterday. This was compared to 96.30 ft on the same day last year against the maximum level of 124.80 ft.
The inflow was reduced to 20,585 cusces from 52,000 cusces yesterday. The irrigation officials maintained that an outflow 65 of 295 cusces meant for drinking water supply purposes. It may be noted that KRS water level touched rock bottom 67 ft last week causing concern in the cities of Bangalore, Mysore and Mandya.
The level at Kabini Reservoir stood at 2268.04 feet against the full level of 2284 feet. The inflow was 11470 cusces and the outflow was 1333 cusces.
The inflow into the Harangi Reservoir in Madikeri was 2821.38 feet against the maximum level of 2859 feet. The inflow was 1807 cusces.
