Shillong, Jun 26 (UNI) The Synjuk Ki Seng Longkmie (SKSL) today asked the Meghalaya government to initiate a dialogue with the agitating Khasi Student's Union over the Uranium mining issue.

The request of the SKSL, a federation of Women's organisation, came after the KSU temporarily suspended its "six-night public curfew", in the three districts of state.

The student's body, which spearheaded the movement against Uranium mining since June four, had called for fresh "night public curfew" from 2000 hours today to 0500 hours of July one everyday in East, West Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi districts of the state, demanding the release of their jailed activists and opposing uranium mining.

The government should start a dialogue now with the KSU to end all stalemate, arising out of the Uranium mining, SKSL general secretary W Jyrwa told UNI here.

Ms Jyrwa said if the government failed to keep its assurance, the SKSL would take to street to force the government for a dialogue and release of the KSU activists.

The student's body conceded to the request of the SKSL after the Chairman of Cabinet Committee on Public Grievances Martle N Mukhim assured the Mother's Union that the State Government would look into the demands of the women's organisation, provided the KSU withdrew its stir.

Mr Mukhim had assured the Mother's Union that the government would take up their demands seriously and appropriate recommendations submitted to the government for creating a conducive atmosphere for talks with the KSU.
