Chennai, Jun 26 (UNI) The Islamic Literary Association(ILA) today urged the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to expedite his move to provide exclusive reservation for Muslim minorities in education and employment.

Talking to newspersons here, ILA's President, Captain Ameer Ali and General Secretary S M Hidhyathullah recalled Mr Karunanidhi's announcement in the last month's International Islamic Tamil Literary Conference that an Ordinance for providing exclusive reservation for women would be promulgated.

They said ILA handed over the copies of the orders of Karnataka and Kerala Government, providing exclusive reservation for Muslims, to the office of Mr Karunanidhi.

Mr Karunanidhi, subsequently had discussions with his cabinet colleagues, officials, legal experts and former judges to avoid the legal hurdles experienced by the Andhra Pradesh Government recently in the issuance of an Ordinance, providing reservation for Muslims in Tamil Nadu.

They said the Chief Minister would convene an all party meeting in this regard and lauded his initiative.

They said, a delegation led by Tamil Nadu Haj Committee Deputy Chairman, President Aboo Bucker and ILA Patron Kavigo Abdul Raghman met the leaders of various political parties, including Union Minister G K Vasan, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee(TNCC) President M Krishnaswamy, Pattali Makkal Katchi(PMK) Founder leader S Ramadoss, CPI(M) State Secretary N Varadharajan, CPI State Secretary T Pandiyan, Dalit Panthers of India(DPI) General Secretary Thol Thirumavalavan and sought their support for exclusive reservation for Muslims, to which they reciprocated.

The leaders also assured that they would make use of their good offices with Mr Karunanidhi and urge him for the promulgation of an Ordinance at the earliest, they added.

Mr Aboo Bucker, who was also present at the press conference said since they had a initial round of discussions with the retired judges and other legal experts, their views would be submitted to Mr Karunanidhi shortly, to avoid any obstacle for the proposed Ordinance through the Legal Forum.
