Manipur: CPI urges Centre to repeal AFSPA Act

New Delhi, June 26: The Communist Party of India (CPI) has urged the Government to immediately repeal the draconian Armed Forces Special Powers Act(AFSPA), 1958 from Manipur for bringing peace in the state.

The party, in a statement issued here today, stated that the people of Manipur were very much agitated on this issue.

Justice Jeevan Reddi Committee did propose the repeal of this Act, but the Union Government and especially the Home Ministry did nothing to concede to the demand of the people. Now as the second Administrative Reforms Commission has also recommended for the repeal of the same Act it is high time for the Governemnt to repeal this act immediately, sources said.
