K'taka: Indiscriminate land allotment for SEZ
Bangalore, Jun 26: Congress in Karnataka today threatened to launch an agitation soon in protest against indiscriminate acquisition of farmland ostensibly for Industrial development, State Party Chief Mallikarjuna Kharge said today.
Talking to newsmen here he alleged that the Janata Dal(Secular) Bharatiya Janata Party coalition government was adopting anti-farmer policies by identifying agrarian land for the purpose of Special Economic Zone, more than actual requirement.
He said a Mumbai-based firm's memorandum to allot land near Nandagudi revenue division for about 7200 hectares was rejected by Principal Secretary Revenue Department A Jamdar. However, it was cleared subsequently by the high-level committee chaired by Chief minister Mr H D Kumaraswamy.
Alleging that the state government, with an intention to help realtors in and around city, was acquiring farmland in the name of SEZ, he said his party would not allow this to happen and launch an agitation against the government. The party would constitute a fact finding committee to submit a report after collecting details about the land being allotted to create a SEZ in Nandagudi. The committee comprised industrialists, Non Government Organisation representatives and farmers Representatives.
