Classical Music purifies the soul, says Rinpoche

Dharamshala, Jun 26 (UNI) Prime Minister of Tibetan government-in-exile, Prof Samdong Rinpoche today described the economic imbalance, violence, war, exploitation and environmental pollution as serious global threats and stressed on the need to stamp these evils out to lead a peaceful life.

Addressing a ''Classical Cultural Evening'' gathering, Prof Samdong Rinpoche said Classical music not only help a person to become man with a capital 'M' but also help him in purifying his soul.

The event was organised by the Yogiraj Chandermohan Ji Maharaj Sangeet Mahavidyalya Society.

Prof Samdong Rinpoche said while the so-called developed countries have failed in curbing these evils, India, with its traditional, classical and cultural strength could fight out these five demons to rejuvenate the human values in the Indian Society.

Lok Sabha MP Chander Kumar, in his address, stressed on changing the 'modern' mindset in order to protect the Indian Cultural Heritage and said Classical Music was a medium to achieve this goal.

The audience was held spellbound last night when the talented artistes of the Sangeet Mahavidialaya presented dance drama ' Kaliyia Daman'.

Two local artistes of the Vidyalayia, Sunil of Birta and Man Singh of Rait made audience dance during their jugalbandi of Damadam Mast Kalander.

The Guests distributed prizes among the artistes and the people who have made their mark in different fields.

Swami Vijay Puri Chairman of the Society honoured the guests Prof Rinpoche, Mr Kumar and the local MLA Surender Kaku among others.
