New Delhi, June 26: Asking BJP cadre to take lessons from the major poll reverses in UP, senior party leader L K Advani today asserted that the people's disillusionment with the UPA government was growing day by day and the BJP should prepare for the next parliamentary election to provide a formidable alternative at the Centre.

"One of the costly mistakes we have frequently made in recent times is that we do not prepare our election plan well in advance.

We must correct this mistake in respect of the next Parliamentary Election," Mr Advani said in an address to the party's National Executive here.

While suggesting holding of central level conclave (Chintan Baithak) soon, followed by state-level conclaves, he asked the partymen to consolidate the party's traditional support base by strengthening BJP's relationship with its core constituency, expand its appeal, both geographically and socially, to make the party more "aggregative and inclusive." Mr Advani saw no difficulty in achieving this objective because the party's ideology of nationalism includes every section of the society on an "equal basis and excludes none." He called for setting up of six panels to suggest policy alternatives on critical issues before the nation. He listed these issues as economic development, social development, education and youth, governance reform, internal security and foreign affairs.

The panels should be headed by senior party leaders and have experts in the respective fields.

"Views and suggestions of the sister organisations in our large ideological fraternity should also be proactively sought," Mr Advani said.

Airing concern over the party's debacle in UP which has 80 Lok Sabha seats, the party patriarch asked for introspective analysis for suitable corrective actions. In a tough message, he asked the party president Rajnath Singh not to tolerate indiscipline and anything which weakened the cohesion and unity in the party at any level.

Mr Advani asked Mr Singh to draw up, in consultation with senior colleagues, a task sheet detailing corrective actions that need to be taken on an urgent basis, both at the Centre and in states.

The inner party situation in many states needs urgent attention and corrective action. In some places, strict disciplinary action is also needed, Mr Advani said.

On the party's dismal show in UP, he said '' in our introspection we must concentrate on five questions: -- Why did the BJP fail to project itself as the most credible and winnable alternative to the incumbent government of the Samajwadi Party? -- Why did a section of our core supporters shift to the Bahujan Samaj Party? -- Why were we unable to win support from other sections of society? -- What were the weaknesses in our party organisation? and, -- What mistakes were committed in the management of our campaign?''
