Tension prevails in city over construction of corporation building
Bangalore, Jun 25 (UNI) Tension prevailed for sometime in teeming Shivajinagar area in the city today when officials belonging to Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) started building a structure with heavy bandobust which was disputed by local Muslims claiming that land belonged to a dargah.
The satellite bus station in the area, which see hundreds of bus ply every day, wore a deserted look as police stopped the busses from entering the station as a precaution against any clashes.
A large posse of policemen were seen deployed in the area in anticipation of trouble. However, the situation remained peaceful and well under control, police officers said.
The trouble started when BMP authorities started digging the plot to construct hostel to house Post Graduate Medical students of the state-owned Bowring and Curzon Hospital situated within the vicinity of the Hospital.
The officials have claimed that the land belonging to BMP which was taken over by it after chief Minister Mr H D Kumaraswamy and Health Minister R Ashok had convinced the locals to part with the land.
