Special drive of Maha police to track down criminals

Mumbai, June 25 (UNI) In an effort to curb the growing incidents of crime in the state, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil today said that over 1300 police personnel have been deployed in addition to the regular force for anti-dacoity and anti-robbery patrolling.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Patil said a special team, constituted under SP, Ahmednagar, to detect offences of robberies and dacoities at jewellery shops, has arrested 37 persons so far, recovering property worth Rs 61.46 lakh. Pune Rural police arrested 28 gangs, consisting of 215 persons, and recovered property worth Rs 97 lakh.

Osmanabad police detained seven trucks, belonging to criminals.

Thane rural police arrested six persons in connection with the recent dacoity at Virar, while thane city police arrested three persons in connection with recent dacoity at Godbunder, he said.

Buldhana police arrested three gangs of dacoits consisting of 16 persons and recovered property worth Rs seven lakh. The gangs were involved in dacoity and murder at Manmad, Patil added.
