Soldier among four killed, huge cache of arms recovered in J

Srinagar, June 25 (UNI) A soldier was among four people killed and 15 others injured while security forces busted hideouts and recovered RDX and other arms and ammunition in Jammu and Kashmir overnight.

An official spokesman said militants today hurled a hand grenade near a crowded old bus stand at Doda in the Jammu region this afternoon causing injuries to 15 people. The injured were admitted to hospitals where two injured identified as Riyaz Ahmad Mir and Nissar Ahmad died.

He said one of the three soldiers, who were injured in a fierce encounter with militants near the Line of Control (LoC) at Doori in the Karnah sector, died in hospital. Five infiltrators of the Pakistan based Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) were killed in the incident.

Troops of 95 Battalion of BSF launched a search operation in general area of Khumduri in the frontier district of Kupwara early this morning following a tip-off from locals about a militant hideout, a police spokesman said.

He said during the operation the hideout was busted and a large cache of arms and ammunition were recovered, including one AK rifle, 11 magazines, 400 rounds, one pistol, three Chinese hand grenades, 14 UBGL, one UMG magazine drum type, four electric detonators, four Assembly detonators, two igniter sets, one wireless set, five IED timer devices, five switches and 01 bore gun (damaged). However, no one was arrested.

He said militants kidnapped a Head Constable Farooq Ahmad Tantray at Naibug from his house in south Kashmir. A massive hunt has been launched to rescue him, he said.

An official spokesman said militants kidnapped one Ghulam Hussain alias Gani and later killed him at Tetharan in Ramban area.

Security forces recovered 10 kg of RDX at Khari Buzla, Banihal while one pistol with five rounds and one revolver and two detonators were recovered at Dalogra forest.
