Saurashtra fishermen warned against venturing into the sea

Rajkot, June 25 (UNI) Fishermen in Saurashtra have been warned against venturing into the sea as heavy rainfall has been forecast in Saurashtra-Kutch region in the next 24 to 48 hours.

Number three signals have been hoisted at Veraval too.

A report from Porbandar said two steamers were adrift in the rough sea near Porbandar Port as gusty winds were blowing with speeds betwen 50 to 60 km per hour. Nine crew members had been rescued while efforts were on to rescue other 16 members by the Indian Coast guards, the report said.

Meanwhile, six fishermen who had gone fishing on June 23 in their vessel 'Shivlehri' have gone missing, the report added.

As many as 15 dams in Rajkot and Jamnagar district have received fresh waters ranging from half foot to eight feet following heavy rainfall in their catchments areas, the irrigation flood control room said in a release here.

Meanwhile, the water level of the Moj Dam, near Upleta town of the district has increased by ten feet following heavy rainfaill in the catchments area of the dam.

Moderate to heavy rainfall lashed several parts of Saurashtra region during the last 24 hrs, reports reaching here said today.

The city has received 18.3 mm rainfall till 0800 hrs today, taking the season's total to 95 mm so far, weather office said.

Rainfall ranging from 25 mm to 75 mm was reported from Veraval, Keshod, Manavadar, and Jafrabad of Junagadh district, the report said adding that Jamnagar, Amreli, Porbadnar and Rajkot districts too received rainfall.

One tree was uprooted at Swaminarayan chowk of the city. However, no one was injured in the incident, fire bridgade sources said.
