Mumbai, June 25 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today expressed satisfaction over social measures undertaken by Mumbai Police to prevent any repetition of incidents like the one faced by two sisters from Madanpura locality--Sameena and Zarina Sheikh--who were harassed and threatened for pursuing college education.

Chief Public Prosecutor Satish Borulkar informed the court that the problem faced by the sisters was a social one and police have now undertaken measures in that direction to prevent any such incident in the future.

A meeting of Mohalla Committee has been convened on Saturday and DCP of the zone will himself preside over the meeting, he told the court, adding that vigilance will also be kept in the entire locality.

A division bench comprising Justice Ranjana Desai and Justice D B Bhosale appreciated the initiatives undertaken by police but warned them not to withdraw the criminal prosecution against the accused Mohammad Ali Nissar Ahmed Ansari, who has been charged with assaulting family members of Sameena and Zarina, for preventing them from pursuing college education.

The court also directed police to place on record all the proposed measures to prevent such incidences on an affidavit, before Thursday, the day on which further hearing on the petition filed by the two sisters is scheduled.

Though the court expressed satisfaction over the initiative undertaken by the police machinery, it disapproved in-action on the part of Nagpada Police, which according to the court failed to take timely action on the complaints filed by the girls.
