'People's perception about JK must be changed'
Mumbai, June 25: People's perception about Kashmir needs to be changed and the tourists should feel safe about coming to the valley to experience the paradise on earth, said Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Gulam Nabi Aazad today.
While was speaking to mediapersons here, he urged them to portray the brighter side of Kashmir.
''Kashmir is not just about violence and terror but is also one of the most beautiful places on earth. What is needed now is the renewal of perceptions,'' he said.
He assured that the State was safe for tourists as the conditions had improved there. ''The State is co-ordinating with the Centre to take several initiatives to provide better facilities and a safe environment for tourists,'' Mr Azad added.
The State department of tourism has rediscovered some of the best tourist spots called 'Unknown Kashmir'. The department has identified 19 such sights, out of which 12 are being developed under Prime Minister Reconstruction Programme.
''The tourism department is also focusing on the development of adventure tourism in the State. In this regard, facilities for paragliding, rafting, skiing for tourists are there besides new golf courses in the process of development,'' J&K Tourism Secretary Naeem Akhtar, who was accompanying the Minister said.
Gulam Nabi urged mediapersons to visit different tourist spots in Kashmir and convey the positive messages regarding tourism in the State, which might help in bringing about a change in the perceptions that people across India had about the State, he added.
