Nehru Yuva Kendras in Sikkim to receive enhanced budget
Gangtok, Jun 25 (UNI) Sikkim will receive more than five times of its earlier budget for promoting the youth activities through Nehru Yuva Kendras (NYK) from this year.
NYK Sangathan, a central body, has stated that each of the four NYKs in the state had been receiving an annual budget of Rs 1.5 lakhs but now would get Rs 7 lakhs.
Besides, the NKYs would also receive additional Rs one lakh for undertaking special vocational programmes in the concerned districts.
East District NYK coordinator J K Limboo said they were waiting for the enhanced funds and have already lined several programmes for the youth like rural tourism management.
There are 164 youth clubs in East Sikkim in three different categories, which would be provided financial assistance accordingly, he said.
This would help in providing self-employment to the local youths.
The selected youths would be tied up with reputed hotels for training in ticketing, computer operation and other disciplines.
About Rs 50,000 had been allocated for each of the NYKs in the state for the same.
More special capacity building and skill development programmes for the youths would also be held by NYKs, Mr Limboo said. The annual cash prize for two promising youths in each district had also been increased to Rs 5000 each.
