JK Panthers Party supports Shekhawat for Prez poll

Srinagar, Jun 25: The Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party today extended its support to NDA-backed Independent candidate Bhairon Singh Shekhawat for the July 19 presidential election.

Panthers Party leader Harsh Dev Singh announced the decision in a statement here.

Mr Singh said his party had already disassociated from the Congress-led coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir.

''We are of firm belief that the present constitutional and other related problems and issues could be addressed by electing a suitable and acceptable person on the highest office,'' he added.

Mr Singh said Vice-President Shekhawat with his wisdom, maturity, independent thinking and secular credentials was most suited for this post.

He appealed to all the secular forces to unite and support Mr Shekhawat in the presidential election to uphold democratic values and traditions and the rule of law.

Meanwhile, Panthers Party leader Balwant Singh Mankotia signed the nomination papers of Mr Shekhawat. He met the Vice-President in his Chamber in the Parliament House this morning.
