Srinagar, June 25 (UNI) The Centre today asserted that the level of malnutrition in Jammu and Kashmir was the lowest in the country.

Addressing a news conference here, Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development Renuka Choudhary hailed the Jammu and Kashmir government-led by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad for achieving the distinction of bringing down the level malnutrition among the children of the state.

''In the entire country, we are struggling to lower the level of malnutrition which is telling upon the health and lives of children, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers. However, it is heartening to note that in Jammu and Kashmir the level of malnutrition is on a considerable decline,'' she added.

The Union Minister said the level of malnutrition level among the children in the state has come down in the recent past as a result of which there is a decline in the mortality rate of infants.
