Honour decorum of house: Mayawati to new MLAs

Lucknow, June 25(UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today called on the newly elected MLAs of the assembly to honour the decorum of the democracy by keeping a pro-people attitude in the house.

Inaugurating a two-day orientation programme for the first time MLAs here, Ms Mayawati said it is the responsibility of the peoples' representative to protect the interest of the masses and to uplfit the oppressed sections.

''As the people have given clear majority to the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in the just-concluded assembly polls, now the responsibility of the ruling party members are more than the others to fullfill the peoples ''aspirations,'' she further noted.

Criticising the efforts of some political groups to give each and every issue a political hue, she said this should be avoided in order keep it from creating caste or communal tension and the main thrust should be to think of the well being of every invidivual of the state.

Giving explaination about poor debate in the assembly, Ms Mayawati said as people from the oppressed section are coming more in politics, such things happen.

UP Assembly Speaker Sukhdeo Rajbhar urged upon the members to show their calm during the session and they should not be involved in making the house a place of demonstration.

Chattisgarh assembly speaker Prem Prakash Pandey, who was a guest speaker, explained in detail about the budget procedure and replied to questions of the MLAs.

There are about 190 first timers out of the total 403 members in the assembly.
