Desilting of drains be completed in a week: CM

Hyderabad, June 25 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy today ordered that de-silting of all drainages should be completed within a week by directing the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to see that water logging on the main roads are prevented by cleaning all the catch-pits and manholes in the GHMC areas.

He ordered that all drains should be cleared and all encroachments on the drains, big and small, should be removed.

Before removing the encroachments of poor people they should be properly rehabilitated, he added.

The city should not have any floods or water logging by the next monsoon and steps should be initiated in this regard.

The Chief Minister also released brochures and publicity material regarding proper sanitation and the way to fight diseases like malaria, chikunguniya and dengue, being brought out by the GHMC.
