Rajahmundry, June 25 (UNI) About 130 Communist Party of India (Marxist) activists were today arrested at Dowleswaram when they forcibly occupied government land near the Telugu University here as part of their 'bhuporatam' agitation.

CPI(M) District Secretariate Member T Arun said nearly 500 activists, including women, had reached the spot early at 0700 hrs, hoisted flags and demarked house sites.

Agitators maintained that as the government had failed to give house sites, they would not believe government assurance or vacate the land.

Rural Tahsildar Suresh Babu pacified the agitators, stating that the matter would be inquired into and sites distributed to them.

However, CPI(M) activists did not budge, following which police entered the scene and arrested about 130 members and later let them off.
