Puducherry, June 25: Pointing out various lapses of the Government and Congress party, CPI State Secretary Na Ra Kalainathan today said the party would organise a four-day political awareness campaign here from July 18.

Talking to newspersons here, he said the Government as well as the Congress had rejected the CPI's proposal for a Coordination Committee to ensure smooth functioning of the Government.

Mr Kalainathan said several schemes, including provision of Colour Television sets and unemployment allowance were not implemented. Inefficency had creeped into the administration, following ego clashes among the ruling partymen, he alleged.

Mr Kalainathan said the Executive Committee meeting of the party here yesterday had resolved to urge the administration to enact laws to regulate the private schools for admission to Plus One classes, collection of donations and salary to the teachers.

The party would organise a demonstration in front of the education department here on June 27 to press their demands, he added.

Taking strong exception to the alleged slackened attitude of the police department on the deteroriating law and order situation here, he said the meeting resolved to organise agitations at seven different centres here on June 30 to condemn the attitude of the police.

The party would also organise a demonstration before the banks here to protest against the reluctance on part of the nationalised banks to grant agricultural and educational loans to the needy, he added.

Another resolution urged the administration to take immediate steps for setting up of a Committee to recommend the Union Government to amend the Union Territories Act 1963 to ensure power to the assembly and cabinet here as in other states, as resolved in the budget session of the territorial assembly.

Mr Kalainathan said the Puducherry Legislative assembly is the only one functioning still under the Union Territories Act 1963 and the Act hinders the implementation of the schemes of the government.

Another resolution urged the administration to set up a Public Service Commission here to ensure group 'A' and 'B' posts for the locals and to reduce the number of IAS officers.
