Centre grants foodgrains to MP, Guj, cash to Haryana under SGRY

New Delhi, Jun 25 (UNI) The Centre has granted foodgrains to Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat and cash to Haryana under the Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana (SGRY) while funds have been released to Sikkim for construction of roads under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna.

The Rural Development Ministry has approved the release of 24797 MT of Wheat and 2973 MT of Common Rice to 17 districts of Madhya Pradesh under SGRY. The foodgrains to the state would be distributed through Food Corporation of India depots in 2007-08.

The ministry has also granted 21247 MTs of Wheat to Gujarat for its 16 Districts during 2007-08 under SGRY.

Grants-in-aid amounting to Rs 23.47 crore as balance of first Instalment has been released to 16 districts of Haryana. It has been given as Central assistance for the implementation of SGRY during the current financial year.

The grant is towards plan expenditure and will be utilised for approved items of works subject to the conditions laid down in the SGRY Guidelines.

During 2007-08, foodgrains will be given to the labourers under SGRY at the rate of three kg instead of five kg per man a day as part of wages. The State Government must ensure timely payment of wages and timely and adequate supply of foodgrains.

If the foodgrains are not available, wages should be paid in cash.

Meanwhile, Rs 34.50 crore has been released to Sikkim as balance payment of first instalment of Phase-V for 67 road works valued at Rs 149.00 crore. The Grants-in-aid has been given to the Sikkim Rural Roads Development Agency (SRRDA), which is the Autonomous Agency for receiving funds for the state under PMGSY.
